Liquefaction, in geology, occurs when the ground becomes so saturated with water that it begins to act like quicksand, and things placed upon the water saturate soil begin to sink into the ground as though pulled under.
Liquefaction damages roads, sucks cars and trucks beneath the surface and even swallows up whole buildings. There are areas of the lower mainland that are particularly at risk of
liquefaction in the event of flooding, heavy rain or tsunami.
